We waited with antipication…we did all our quirky routines…and it seemed that Mother Nature was on our side for harvest 2012. The fruit that came in the winery was exceptional. The fermentations smelled awesome and tasted wonderful. This was truly a stellar year for vineyard owners, vineyard managers, and wine makers.
Someone asked me on twitter if this was the harvest of the century. I would have to say “yes…this is the harvest of the century.” I predict you will be tasting some stellar wines from this harvest.
Passaggio Wines will be adding to its line up this year so keep an eye out for the following wines: Unoaked Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. You can join the Passaggio Passionistas Wine Club and have these wines shipped to you throughout the year.

I took the 2012 Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio off of cold settling and racked them to stainless barrels and tank. Tasting the juice before fermentation…what a great day! This is the beginning….this is it – gotta get this right!!! What’s the pH…? What’s the TA…? What’s the ML…? What’s the YAN…? What’s the Brix…? Whew!!! – here we go…yeast and nutrient are lined up and ready for the next step. Stay tuned for more…
Follow Your Passion
It’s that time of year when I start getting nervous yet excited about harvest. It’s on my mind day in and day out. When will the grapes be ready…is this an early harvest? Do I have all my equipment ready? Do I have all the chemicals I need? These are some of the thoughts running through my mind right before harvest. It’s like the quiet before the storm.
Excitement is in the air. All across the wine industry, wine makers, vineyard managers, cellar workers, and wine industry vendors are on standby. We are all hoping for a great harvest. We are all hoping for the best one yet…LOL
Whatever Mother Nature decides, we will make the best wine with what we have been given. I can’t wait to hear the sound of that first truck bring in the first fruit.

It’s another harvest…the grapes, the forklifts, the T-Bins, the oak barrels, the stainless steel tanks, the yeast, the smell of fermenting juice…I love it all. There is excitement in the air. We are the winemakers – we keep the “romance” alive. So what if we are working 12-15 hour days, 6-7 days a week…it’s harvest!!!! It’s only for a very short period of time when you look at the whole picture. Just think of the great wines that will be coming out of the 09 harvest. It looks to me like 09 will be a great year…my 09 Pinot Grigio and 09 Unoaked Chardonnay are looking great at the moment and I’m sure they will be fantastic in the bottle.
The hype of harvest and the excitement of a finished wine keeps me going…but the selling of those wines…well that’s another story. I love talking about my wines. How can we get those hand crafted wines on the market and out there for the consumer to taste and buy? There are so many fantastic small lot wines for the consumer to try. How do we get it into their hands? I am finding that it is not an easy task. My 08 Unoaked Chardonnay has received great reviews but can I sell it? Not easy….!!!!!!
Trying to figure this whole thing out…not easy!!!!!! My hats off to the marketing guru’s of the wine industry. You make it look so simple. Just put up a website and see the orders come in….not!!!! It’s more than that….it’s talking and talking and talking about your wine…telling your story, sending it to people who will taste it and tell your story. Did I mention talking….? There are great tools to get the word out there….let’s keep talking!!!!!!!!!!!!
